Discovery Days for Kids

Join the Aurora Historical Society for our summer children’s program Discovery Days for Kids! Each day will consist of a kid-friendly tour of Hillary House National Historic Site followed by a fun heritage craft or activity. Programs include Medical Detectives, Nature Seekers, Arts and Crafts and our ever-popular Dig It!

All programs run from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. $5.00 for children, $2.00 for adults. Parents must be present at all times. If you have any questions contact Leigha Cooney at or 905 727 8991.


Medical Detectives

When: Wednesday July 5th, Saturday July 29th, Wednesday August 9th
Where: Hillary House National Historic Site
What: We have a little bit of a problem here at Hillary House. It seems that some people are sick in Aurora and Doctor Hillary needs your help! He is missing some important items that need to go into his doctor’s bag. Can you help him find what he needs? The Aurora Historical Society is calling on parents and children to help Doctor Hillary!. Hunt for your supplies while on a tour of Hillary House so that you can make your very own stethoscope!!! Try it out by listening to a loved one’s heart beat!!


Dig It!

When: Saturday July 8th, Wednesday July 19, Saturday August 12th.
Where: Hillary House National Historic Site
What: We were looking around Hillary House one day and came across some artifacts that we have not seen before. Parents and children are invited to step into the shoes of an archaeologist and learn about these artifacts. There is just one thing to do first. We have to dig them up!


Arts and Crafts

Where: Hillary House National Historic Site
What: Who doesn’t enjoy craft time? Join us at Hillary House for a variety of Arts and Crafts, outdoor games and a tour of Hillary House throughout the summer season!
When: Wednesday July 12th – Canada 150: Come and celebrate Canadian heritage by exploring our history through creative crafts! Discover our geography, the fur trade, and the history of sports that are important to Canada!
Saturday July 22 – Sustainability: Turning Trash into Treasures; This program will entail a number of crafts allowing kids to learn about how to turn materials they have around the house into art projects!
Wednesday August 2nd Edible treats – Join us as we put on our chef’s hat for an ice cream making day!
Wednesday August 23rd prepare for the back to school season. In addition to a tour of Hillary House, children will participate in a scavenger hunt for school items, and design their own pencil case to put them in!


Nature Seekers

When: Saturday July 15th, Wednesday July 26th, Saturday August 5th, Wednesday August 16th.
Where: Hillary House National Historic Site
What: Did you know that Hillary House has 2.5 acres of land? That means there are many different plants and animals to find. Join us at Hillary House on the dates above for a scavenger hunt, house tour and to make and decorate your own nature themed crafts, such as a bird feeder, and a flowerpot!!!
