Artifact of the Week: Danny Kaye Record

Danny Kaye, was born David Daniel Kaminsky in Brooklyn, New York on January 18th 1911. He was a very popular American, actor, dancer, comedian, musician and singer. He is probably most well known for his role as Phil Davis in the popular Christmas classic White Christmas.

Danny originally left school at the age of 13 to pursue a career in show business. He worked a series of jobs, including an entertainer at Catskills Mountain Resorts. His first big brake came in 1939 when he made his Broadway debut in Straw Hat Revue and later Lady in the Dark in 1940.

He made his film debut after signing with Samuel Goldwyn, a Hollywood producer. From there, Kaye stared in films such as Up in Arms, and the Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Throughout his career, he partnered with many different actor/singers like Bing Crosby, the Andrew Sisters and Louis Armstrong. Many songs were recorded on vinyl, such as the one shown here.
